Axiom Mission launched successfully, Shubhanshu Shukla makes history

Carrying Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, Axiom Mission 4 (Ax 4) was on Wednesday launched successfully to the International Space Station (ISS)

The mission lifted off from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. 

Originally scheduled for June 10,  the mission was postponed multiple times. 

Group Capt Shukla is India’s second astronaut to venture into space.  

Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma was the first Indian to fly to space

Serving as mission pilot, Shukla is accompanied by commander Peggy Whitson and mission specialists Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski and Tibor Kapu.

Ax‑4 is a planned private spaceflight to the ISS operated by Axiom Space in partnership with SpaceX and NASA. 

The crew will travel to the orbiting laboratory on a new SpaceX Dragon spacecraft after launching on the company’s Falcon 9 rocket.
