At least six fishermen were electrocuted and several injured on Friday after a live electric wire touched the water of a pond in Nagaon district of Assam, police said.
According to the sources, fishermen went to the pond for fishing when a 11,000-Volt electrical wire, hanging loose over the pond, touched the water.
Villagers, around 5 am had informed the electricity department about the loose wire but they were told that the wire was dead, police said.
The locals came to the rescue of the injured fishermen and rushed them to the civil hospital in Nagaon.
Meanwhile, irate villagers attacked the house of the electricity department official and also vandalized his car, official said.
