Army officer, terrorist killed in encounter in J&K’s Rajouri

An Indian Army officer and a terrorist killed in an ongoing encounter between militants and security forces in Pir Panjal valley’s Rajouri district on Thursday.

 According to defence ministry spokesman Lt. Colonel Devender Anand – “One JCO of the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles suffered bullet injuries in the encounter. The JCO was immediately evacuated to a nearest medical facility but succumbed to his injuries.”

Officials said one more soldier was injured in the gunfight. One militant was killed in the Thanamandi encounter, the police added.

Initial reports suggested that the militants recently infiltrated from the Line of Control. Rajouri district is bordering Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.

“The operation is on in the area,” said officials.

The number of militants hiding in the area could not be determined immediately.
