Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Thursday joined 76 Divyangjan in planting 76 saplings at Vadnagar railway station in Gujarat to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday.

The plantation drive, held on September 17, was organised with a focus on both environmental conservation and social inclusion, with each sapling symbolising a commitment to a greener future and equal participation in society.

Shah personally planted a sapling during the programme. Mehsana MP Haribhai Patel also participated in the plantation drive.

Ahmedabad Divisional Railway Manager Ved Prakash said the participation of the 76 children was intended to underline the role of every section of society in environmental protection and nation-building.

From plantation to conservation

The initiative builds on a plantation drive held at the same railway station on September 17, 2025, when 75 saplings were planted on Modi’s 75th birthday under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.

According to the Ahmedabad division of Western Railway, the saplings planted last year have been regularly maintained and protected. The railway authorities said they have now grown into healthy, green trees, with some bearing flowers and fruit.

The division described the latest programme as part of its “plantation to conservation” approach, aimed at ensuring that tree-planting initiatives are followed by sustained care and protection.

The Ahmedabad division said it has been undertaking various activities across railway premises to increase green cover, promote environmental conservation and create greater awareness among passengers and the public.

The Vadnagar programme was also positioned as a message of social inclusion, with the participation of Divyangjan highlighting that environmental protection and nation-building are collective responsibilities involving every section of society.
