Hyderabad: Telugu superstar Allu Arjun has been summoned by a Hyderabad court in connection with the Sandhya Theatre stampede case linked to the premiere screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule. The Nampally Court has directed the actor and other accused persons to appear in person on June 22 as the case moves toward the trial stage.
The development comes nearly one and a half years after the tragic incident that occurred during a special screening of Pushpa 2 at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre on December 4, 2024. A massive crowd had gathered outside the theatre to catch a glimpse of the actor, leading to a stampede in which a 35-year-old woman, Revathi, lost her life while her young son suffered serious injuries.
According to the police charge sheet, Allu Arjun has been named as Accused No. 11 (A11). The management of Sandhya Theatre, including its owner, partners and staff members, has been listed among the other accused in the case. Investigators have alleged lapses in crowd management and security arrangements during the event.
Following the filing of the charge sheet against 23 accused persons, the court issued summons directing them to appear before it on June 22. Reports indicate that summons have been issued to multiple accused as the court begins the process of examining the case.
The actor’s legal team has confirmed receiving the summons and said further details would be presented before the court during the hearing. Earlier, Allu Arjun was arrested in December 2024 in connection with the case but was subsequently granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court, followed by regular bail.
It is important to note that the court summons and charge sheet do not establish guilt. The judicial process is still underway, and all accused will have the opportunity to present their defence before the court. The upcoming hearing is expected to be a significant step in one of the most closely watched legal cases involving the Telugu film industry.
