New Delhi: A 31-year-old software engineer working with Adobe was allegedly beaten to death by his wife’s relatives following a domestic dispute at his home in Nihal Vihar, Delhi. The deceased has been identified as Vinay Gupta, a resident of Laxmi Park. Police have arrested four people in connection with the case.
Argument reportedly began over child’s medicine
According to police and the victim’s family, an argument broke out between Vinay and his wife Rekha on Friday morning over giving medicine to one of their children. Following the dispute, Rekha allegedly left the house and contacted members of her parental family.
About 10 minutes later, she reportedly returned to the Nihal Vihar residence with several relatives. CCTV footage cited in reports purportedly shows Rekha and her sister-in-law arriving at the house, while other relatives were seen outside in a car.
Family alleges Vinay was severely assaulted
According to Vinay’s family, the relatives began assaulting him inside the house. His mother, who lives downstairs, had reportedly gone to arrange water and refreshments for the visiting relatives when the alleged assault began.
When she returned, she allegedly found her son being attacked and tried to intervene. The family has alleged that Vinay was repeatedly beaten and strangled. These allegations are part of the family’s account and are being investigated by police.
Vinay was later taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A forensic team subsequently visited the residence and collected evidence from the scene.
Four people arrested
Delhi Police have arrested four people in connection with the case. They include Vinay’s wife Rekha, her two brothers and another relative. Police are questioning the accused to establish their individual roles and determine exactly what happened inside the house.
A case is being registered under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to murder and acts carried out with common intention.
Family alleges attack was pre-planned
Vinay’s mother and sister have alleged that the assault was pre-planned. They have also claimed that the CCTV cameras inside the house were switched off before the alleged attack.
The family has further alleged that Vinay had faced threats from some of his wife’s relatives in the past. However, these claims have not been established by the police and remain part of the family’s allegations. Investigators are examining the CCTV footage, forensic evidence and statements of those present to determine the circumstances of the incident.
Vinay leaves behind four-month-old twins
Vinay had married Rekha around three-and-a-half years ago. The couple had twin children, a boy and a girl, who are around four to four-and-a-half months old. Vinay worked as a software engineer with Adobe in Noida.
Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances that led to the confrontation and the subsequent death. The role of each accused and the allegations made by both sides are being examined as part of the investigation.
