The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday suspended Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira and Kharar MLA Kanwar Sandhu from the party for allegedly indulging in “anti-party” activities.
In a statement issued by the Core Committee of AAP Punjab unit, it was stated that, “Both Sukhpal Singh Khaira and Kanwar Sandhu have been indulging in anti-party activities and have continuously attacked central and state leadership, with the consent of the Political Affairs Committee of the party and after exhausting all avenues, the core Committee has decided to suspend the two leaders with immediate effect.”
Reacting to the decision of his suspension from AAP, Kanwar Sandhu said, “Just got off stage at PPS Nabha, my alma mater where I am being honoured for my contribution to society. Learned that I have been suspended by Aam Aadmi Party – ironic they chose such a day for such a news!
Meanwhile Khaira described the decision as “dictatorial” and said he will hold a meeting with other MLAs and party volunteers to decide his next action.
The suspension came months after Khaira alongwith 10 more MLAs had revolted against party after he was removed from the post of Leader of Opposition.
The rebel group has been seeking autonomy for the state unit, which they say was being controlled by the Delhi leadership.
