A judge who is seen as messiah

In Sirsa district, several survivors of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh have been adorning their living rooms with the photos of Special CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh, reports Pawan Kumar Bansal

Special CBI judge in Panchkula, Jagdeep Singh, is garnering international media focus due to his landmark judgement in convicting controversial Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the case of sexual exploitation of Sadhavis and for the murder of Journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.

Singh, who is a firm believer in God, had inherited values from his teacher father Balbir Singh, who had worked in Jat High School Jind and Government School Bhen Ramrai in Jind district of Haryana.

Singh’s wife Rajni told Tehelka that Jagdeep Singh never discusses his professional work with his family members and others. Rajni, however, regrets that due to high security provided to the family their social life is limited as they remain confined to their house. But then, she accepts this as part of her husband’s duty.

Subash Sharma, a retired Haryana government officer from Jagdeep’s native village Bhain Ramrai, said, “Singh hails from a reputed family and his father was a very good teacher. Singh is very courteous and learned fellow. He visits Behan Ramrai on the Punytithi of his father and honours brilliant students adding that even with Z security he attends maximum village functions”.

Dr.CS Dhull, former Director of post graduate institute of medical sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, hailing from nearby Ikas village said that Singh has brought great name to the family and whole village is proud of his honesty and commitment to his profession.

Late Ram Chander Chhatrapati ‘s son Anshul said that he was indebted to Singh as his judgement had restored not only his but faith of millions in the Indian judiciary.

Jagdeep Singh said that while taking decision of a case he only looks the evidence having no consideration of cast, creed, region or religion in his mind.

Chhatrapati’s murder case is not only important and high profile case, which Singh is handling, he is also handling the case of what is known as Manesar land acquisition and release of land case in which former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and a dozen senior serving and retired Haryana IAS officers are the key accused.

Singh had earlier decided on the case of Apna Ghar Rohtak in which inmates were subjected to sexually exploited by those running the organisation. He had awarded deterrent punishment to the accused.

After completing law degree from the Punjab University, Chandigarh, Jagdeep Singh practised in Punjab and Haryana High Court till he came in Haryana Judicial Service two years ago. He was appointed as special judge of designated court of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of Haryana at Panchkula.

Singh may be a tough person as a Judge but he is good human being. Two years ago, while he was coming to Panchkula from Hisar he saved the life of four seriously injured persons who were lying on road by transporting them to a hospital.

Jagdeep Singh had hit international media headlines a year ago when he had declared self-styled Godman Gurmeet Sant Ram Rahim guilty of raping two Sadhvis. He has sentenced Ram Rahim to 20 years imprisonment for two cases in Sunaria Jail in Rohtak district of Haryana. After his judgements on Ram Rahim, several survivors have began to adorn the pictures of Jagdeep Singh in their drawing rooms.
