New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a youth-led movement that rose to prominence through social media, staged its biggest public demonstration yet at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on June 6, drawing thousands of students, job aspirants and young professionals from across the country. The protest was led by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who returned from the United States to participate in the event.
The primary demand of the protesters was the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in examinations and recruitment processes. Addressing the gathering, Dipke accused the government of failing to address concerns related to exam management and transparency. He also claimed he was prepared to “sacrifice his freedom” for the movement if necessary.
In a significant development, CJP issued a seven-day ultimatum to the government, demanding action on its concerns. Organisers said the movement would intensify if their demands were ignored. Protesters carried flowers, national flags and placards, while speakers repeatedly urged participants to maintain peace and discipline throughout the event.
The demonstration remained largely peaceful despite heavy security arrangements across the capital. Delhi Police later clarified that reports claiming FIRs had been registered against protesters were false. Authorities confirmed that while a few individuals were briefly detained as a precautionary measure, no FIR had been lodged in connection with the protest.
The movement also received support from noted education reform advocate Sonam Wangchuk, who praised the peaceful nature of the protest. Analysts say the turnout marks a major milestone for CJP, which has rapidly evolved from an online campaign into a nationwide youth movement focused on education, employment and governance issues.
