At least six persons died and 14 others were injured in a major blast at the state-run Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) Bhilai Steel Plant in Durg District of Chhattisgarh, about 30 km away from state capital Raipur.
GP Singh, Inspector General of Police (Durg Range) reportedly said, “At least six people were burnt to death while 14 others received injuries and most of them were said to be in a serious condition.”
The blast took place around 10:30 am following a fire in a gas pipeline near the Coke Oven Battery Complex No. 11 during a scheduled maintenance job, SAIL said in a statement.
Statement added that the injured persons were immediately rushed to a hospital and the fire has been controlled.
Police and a rescue team rushed to the spot after the blast.
