Three women farmer protesters were crushed to death while two other were injured, when a speeding truck allegedly ran over them on Thursday morning at farmers protest site at Tikri border, Bahadurgarh.
According to the police the women were sitting on the footpath waiting for an auto rickshaw when the truck ran over them. Two of them died on the spot, one succumbed at the hospital. However, two other women were sustained injuries were identified as Gurmial Kaur and Harmeet Kaur. All hailed from village Dailuwala, Block Bhiki, Manasa district. They have been referred to the PGI, Rohtak.
According the the police, a group of seven women protesters were waiting for an auto rickshaw to go to Bahadurgarh railway station as they planned to leave for their village in Mansa, Punjab.
The incident took place around 5:30 am. The driver of the truck ran away from the accident scene, police said.
Nar Singh, SHO, Sector 6, Bahadurgarh, police station, said the dumper driver fled the spot after the mishap while statements of eyewitnesses were being recorded.
