After shutting off for nearly six months, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has decided to restore broadband and mobile Internet connectivity in the valley from Saturday.
According to a notification by the home department, Mobile data services and internet access through fixed-line shall be allowed across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir but with restrictions. The internet speed shall be restricted to 2G only.”
The 2G mobile internet services on postpaid as well as prepaid phones will be restored and they will remain in effect till January 31 after which it would be reviewed further, it said.
The latest development came after the Apex Court on January 10, asked the Jammu and Kashmir administration to review within a week all orders imposing curbs in the Union Territory.
Internet services were suspended in Jammu and Kashmir since August, when the Centre announced to scrapping of the Constitution’s Article 370 and bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
