A 13-year-old girl was raped and killed in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district, police said.
The victim’s body was found in a sugarcane field.
The police have arrested two men from the village in connection with the case.
The girl’s father said his daughter was strangled. He has also alleged that the girl’s body was found with her eyes gouged out and tongue cut.
The incident took place on Friday in a village close to the Nepal border.
The police said the girl’s post-mortem report has confirmed rape and strangulation. However, the report did not suggest that the victim’s eyes were gouged out or tongue was cut.
The girl had gone missing on Friday afternoon and the father said they went out looking for her everywhere when she did not return for a long time.
Eventually the father said, “we found her in the sugarcane field with her eyes gouged out. Her tongue was cut, and she was strangled with a dupatta.”
Bahujan Samaj Party President Mayawati condemned the incident and called it ‘extremely shameful’.
“What is the difference between the governments of the SP and the present BJP if such incidents keep happening?” she asked.
“The rape of a Dalit minor in Pakariya village of Lakhimpur Kheri, UP and her brutal killing is extremely sad and shameful. What is the difference between the SP and the present BJP government if such incidents keep happening? The government should take strict action against the culprits of Kheri along with Azamgarh,” Mayawati tweeted.
