Patna: The Bihar government has announced a new initiative aimed at promoting cultural and spiritual tourism by offering financial assistance to residents visiting Ladakh under the newly approved Sindhu Darshan Yojana. Under the scheme, eligible participants can receive reimbursement of up to ₹20,000 for travel expenses incurred while attending the annual Sindhu Darshan programme in Ladakh.
The decision was approved by the Bihar Cabinet as part of efforts to encourage greater participation in the cultural event, which is held on the banks of the Indus River and is regarded as a symbol of India’s civilizational heritage and national unity. The scheme is expected to benefit residents interested in undertaking the journey to one of the country’s most remote and strategically significant regions.
According to the government, the reimbursement will be available only to eligible Bihar residents who participate in the officially recognized Sindhu Darshan programme. Applicants will be required to submit travel-related documents and proof of participation to claim the benefit. Officials said detailed operational guidelines, including the application process and eligibility conditions, will be issued separately by the concerned department.
The Sindhu Darshan festival is celebrated annually in Ladakh and attracts participants from different parts of India. The event is designed to promote cultural integration and highlight the historical and spiritual significance of the Indus River. Bihar officials believe the new scheme will enable more people from the state to experience the region’s cultural heritage firsthand.
Government sources clarified that the assistance is not a blanket tourism subsidy for all Ladakh visitors. Instead, it is specifically linked to participation in the Sindhu Darshan programme and will be provided subject to prescribed conditions. The move has been welcomed by cultural organizations and tourism stakeholders, who see it as an effort to strengthen national integration through travel and cultural exchange.
