‘Welcome to India’, says PM Modi as Chinese President Xi Jinping arrives in Chennai

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday afternoon arrived in India for his second informal meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi since they met in China’s Wuhan in April last year.

President Jinping received a grand cultural welcome with traditional dance performances at the airport.

PM Modi in a tweet wrote, “Welcome to India, President Xi Jinping!”

Prime Minister Modi landed in Chennai today morning.

The two leaders have a packed schedule that includes informal and delegation-level talks, sources said.

After landing in Chennai, PM Modi expressed that may this summit will further strengthen ties between India and China.

“Landed in Chennai. I am happy to be in the great land of Tamil Nadu, known for its wonderful culture and hospitality,” PM Modi said.

“It is gladdening that Tamil Nadu will host President Xi Jinping. May this Informal Summit further strengthen ties between India and China,” Modi added.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and PM Modi will begin their second informal meeting in Mamallapuram.
