US records over 50,000 cases in a day for first time

The United States on Wednesday saw the highest single-day spike as it recorded over 50,000 new COVID-19 cases.

Texas, Arizona, North Carolina and Georgia also reported records for new cases, sources said.

The total number of cases in The US has crossed 2.6 million and over 1.2 lakh people have lost their lives.

California Governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday said, “COVID-19 continues to spread at an alarming rate. Effective immediately, 19 counties must close indoors operations for the following sectors: – Restaurants – Wineries – Movie theaters & family entertainment – Zoos, museums – Cardrooms Bars must close ALL operations.”

WHO Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “60% of all COVID-19 cases so far have been reported just in the past month. We’ll never get tired of saying that the best way out of this pandemic is a comprehensive approach. Not testing alone. Not physical distancing alone. Not contact tracing alone. Not masks alone. Do it all.”

Globally, over 10.6 million have been affected due to COVID-19 while more than 5 lakh people died.
