UP law student, who accused Chinmayanand of sexual assault, arrested in extortion case

A law student who accused BJP leader Chinmayanand of sexual assault was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Wednesday morning.

Her arrest came a day after she was detained for questioning in an extortion case.

She will be later produced in a court after a medical examination.

On Tuesday, the court had agreed to hear her request for protection from arrest. The court will hear her petition on Thursday.

Last week, the police had arrested Chinmayanand on a complaint from the law student who has accused the BJP leader of sexual assault and blackmail.

The SIT probing the case had earlier arrested the three more for attempting to extort money from Chinmayanand.

According to SIT chief, the three had accepted their involvement in the extortion case filed against them and named an unidentified woman as a suspect in the same case.

The case surfaced when the law student posted a video in which she had appealed to PM Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath for their intervention to ensure justice to her. She also said that Chinmayanand had ruined the lives of several students and she had evidence against him, which was why she was requesting the PM and the CM to help her out.

The law student went missing after posting a video. A week later, the woman was tracked down to Rajasthan. The top court asked the police to produce the student hours after she was found and spoke to her in a closed hearing the same day.
