Thousands take holy dip at Kumbh on occasion of ‘Maghi Purnima’

Thousands of devotees, seers, pilgrims and tourists on Tuesday took a holy dip at Sangam – the confluence of three holy rivers – Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati – on the auspicious occasion of “Maghi Purnima”.

Over a crore of devotees are expected to take the holy dip. A large number of foreigners are also witnessing the grand ceremony.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the heavy rush of people that started arriving in Kumbh since Monday night.

In view of recent Pulwama terror attack, Security has been beefed up and special precautions are being taken in and around the Mela area, a police official said.

This is the final holy dip for the Kalpvasis, who will return to their homes on Tuesday after a month-long stay at Kumbh.

Many special trains and buses of the Uttar Pradesh State Roadways Corporation (UPSRTC) have been deployed into service.

The Kumbh will culminate on March 4, after the last bathing festival on the occasion of Mahashivratri.
