Lok Sabha elections: SP chief Akhilesh Yadav to contest from Azamgarh

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh.

Mulayam Singh Yadav, the father of Akhilesh is the sitting MP from Azamgarh.

The party also named Azam Khan as its candidate from Rampur.

Mulayam Singh Yadav will now contest from Mainpuri. He had earlier won in 2014 from this constituency but had later resigned.

Earlier there was speculation that Akhilesh may contest the upcoming elections from Kannauj, where his wife Dimple Yadav is the sitting MP.

A few days ago, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati announced that she would not contest 2019 Lok Sabha elections as she wanted to campaign extensively for the candidates of BSP and SP.
