‘How dare she?’: Nirbhaya’s mother slams Indira Jaising on ‘pardon urge’ for convicts

Asha Devi, mother of the December 2012 Delhi gang-rape and murder victim on Saturday hit out at senior lawyer Indira Jaising for asking her to pardon the four men, who are on death row for committing the brutal crime against her daughter.

Asha Devi said, “Who is Indira Jaising to give me such a suggestion? Whole country wants the convicts to be executed. Just because of people like her, justice is not served to rape victims.”

Indira Jaising on Friday asked Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi to forgive the men convicted for the 2012 gang rape and murder of her daughter.

The advocate took to twitter to make the request shortly after Asha Devi expressed her disappointment when a Delhi Court postponed the date of execution of the four convicts.

“While I fully identify with the pain of Asha Devi, I urge her to follow the example of Sonia Gandhi who forgave Nalini and said she didn’t not want the death penalty for her. We are with you but against death penalty,” Jaising tweeted.

The death-row convicts who were earlier slated to be executed on January 22 will now be hanged on February 1 at 6 am as per the new directive of the court.

Four convicts, Vinay, Akshay, Pawan and Mukesh were convicted and sentenced to death for raping a 23-year-old paramedic student in a moving bus in the national capital on the intervening night of December 16-17, 2012.

She passed away at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore while undergoing the treatment.
