Hindutva Propaganda Machinery Spews Bile, Tehelka Continues To Fight For Justice In Gujarat

UPDATE: Visfot.com has issued an apology on 10 February 2012. Here is the article titled: ‘Ashish Khetan ko badnam karni ki saazish

Note from the Editor

We have noted absolute and outrageous lies floating around on social media and some publications that former Tehelka Investigations Editor Ashish Khetan has turned hostile in the Naroda Gaon trial in Gujarat and denied the seminal investigation he had done. We strongly condemn and deny this. If these are not withdrawn immediately, we will take legal action.

Note from Ashish Khetan

Website visfot.com has published a vicious and grossly defamatory article about me and Tehelka and given a factually incorrect and depraved account of my ongoing deposition in the Naroda Gram massacre case.

Following is the link to this article: http://visfot.com/index.php/current-affairs/8423-ashish-khetan-story-awesh-tiwari.html and its titled as “shaitan ban gaye ashish khetan”.

By publishing such scandalous report the website has exhibited a cynical disregard to all acceptable standards of free speech and fair and responsible journalism.

No body from the website including the author contacted me before publishing this defamatory piece. Clearly, the website has also not cross-checked the true account of actual events with the authorities concerned which in this case would be the team of public prosecutors or the officials of Special Investigations Team.

It is also apparent that the article has been published with a deliberate and malafide intent of defaming me and bringing disrepute to my journalistic career built with many years of hard work and rigorous and honest reporting.

I have urged the website to immediately withdraw the article and publish an unconditional apology.

In The Words Of The Men Who Did It

Tehelka Investigations Editor Ashish Khetan’s sting investigation into the Gujarat riots played a crucial role in nailing Maya Kodnani and Babu Bajrangi in the Naroda Patiya massacre. • Ashish Ji, I salute your courage and determination to do this sting and help judiciary to bring perpretators to task. You are the true icon of journalism and many would certainly try to malign your image. As long as people like you are there, every citizen of this country can live with confidence & pride. Least to say, lesser know sites like the one you mentioned, which happened to be in oblivion so far would certainly use your name to gain cheap pulicity and veiwership. I salute you Sir, you symbolize one of the strong pillar of democratic India. I am proud of you. Jai Hind!!!

  • Ashish ji. Hats off for your stand. Tehelka should approach Press Council against the biased reporting by the Hindi newspaper, as well as its threatening calls to you, in Gujarat.

  • Excellent work Ashish Sir!…Keep it up! we are with you…the demon Modi deserves punishment

  • Nice work Mr. Ashish, please keep it up.

  • well done ashish Ji Hats off to you. Great Job. India needs people like you

  • both the godhra train burning and the riots afterwards are henious acts against humanity and the culprits has to be brought to book no matter if he is self proclaimed lion…@jaywant nitturkar – if you are so concerned about hindus then why not first start with eradicating prelevant caste system in hindu religion…talk about other religion afterwards…you seems to be more concerned about kashmiri pandits but then what about dalits who are suffering this since thousands of years…when you are in danger you think of hindus and we should be united…hypocracy…but bhaujans will not fell prey to your propganda anymore.

  • Ashish bhai,

Hats of to your courage of conviction for justice and truth. We are eternally grateful to you. Humanity Salutes you!

  • @Jay, In India, an actor’s son becomes an Actor….Rajiv Gandhi’s son becomes VP of Congress eventhough he as no merit other than the inherited last name…Hina Rabbani, Pak’s foreign minister became one only becuase she was daughter of a Paki leader…so in our subcontinent, it is common for people to adopt their parent’s profession…caste system was nothing more than that..just that a soldier’s son became a soldier and a farmer’s son became a farmer and a shoe makers son became a shoe maker or dalit. Lord Krisna and Lord Rama were not brahmins, yet all Hindus pray to them.Modi is not Brahmin, BJP ex President V. Naidu is Dalit, Togadia is Bania…so the caste system has no relevance in today’s india which is in inforamtion age. Ambedkar, a Dalit was given job of wriring India’s constitution..our Presidents have been Dalit…today, there are more poor Brahmins in villages than Dalist so India has moved beyond caste system, which even in the old days, was just a division of labor…it was used by foreign missioanies and arab as an excluse to force conversions on people.

Even among muslims, there is Sheikh, Sayyaad, Mughal and Pathan (Sheikh being highest). Ordinary muslims are broadly divied in Aijaafs and Ashrafis (those who claim to have some Arab blood) with one claiming superior to others because they have a ligher shade of skin. Recently 200 Shia were butured by Sunnis in Quetta…so considering what goes on in other religions, what we have in India, is much better, however far from perfect. Read Swami Vivekananda about caste.

  • @Devika Singh: Devika Singh You have written yourself that this is not about being a Hindu or Moslem but being ‘Human’; then why should you be ashamed to be a Hindu? You have let the cat out of the bag unwittingly! Coaching not enough. Go for a crash course again in Tehelka!
