Highest single-day spike of 49,310 COVID-19 cases take India’s tally to 12,87,945; Death toll at 30,601

The number of coronavirus cases in India have risen to 12,87,945 as it recorded 49,310 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. A total of 30,601 coronavirus patients have lost their lives, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.

There are 4,40,135 active cases while 8,17,208 have been cured/discharged, according to Health Ministry data.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country. The total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 3,47,502 with 12,854 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu has the second highest COVID-19 cases – 1,92,964 with 3,232 deaths followed by Delhi – 1,27,364 and 3,745 deaths, Karnataka – 80,863 with 1,616 deaths, Andhra Pradesh – 72,711 and 884 deaths, Uttar Pradesh – 58,104 and 1,289 deaths and Gujarat – 52,477 and 2,252 fatalities.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Friday said a total of 1,54,28,170 samples have been tested up to July 23 of which 3,52,801 samples were tested yesterday.
