Hathras case: Detained on way to Hathras, Rahul and Priyanka released by cops

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have been released after being detained by the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police for leading a march towards Hathras to meet the rape victim’s family. They were escorted back to Delhi by the UP Police.

Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi were taken into preventive custody after a faceoff with Uttar Pradesh Police.

Rahul alleged that he was pushed to the ground and lathi-charged by police.

Rahul and Priyanka started their foot-march on the highway after their convoy en route to Hathras gangrape victim’s residence was stopped at the Yamuna Expressway.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra hit out at Yogi Adityanath-led UP government as she was marching towards Hathras on Thursday afternoon.

Priyanka earlier in a tweet said, “the victim’s family had been detained and was not being allowed to talk to anyone.”

Yesterday, UP CM Yogi Adityanath formed a three-member SIT to investigate the incident.

The 19-year-old Dalit woman, who was gang-raped in Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Hathras, died on Tuesday prompting outrage, protests and calls for justice.

The woman was left paralysed with severe spinal cord injury after she was brutally gang-raped by four men in her village on September 14.
