Former Union minister Oscar Fernandes passes away at 80

Oscar Fernandes, a senior Congress leader and former Union minister, passed away at a private hospital in Mangaluru. He was 80.

Fernandes sustained injuries after he had an accidental fall while doing his regular exercise and was admitted to Yenepoya Hospital in Mangaluru on July 19.

Fernandes has been the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee during the late 1980s before which he was made the Joint Secretary of the All India Congress Committee in 1983.
