Delhi: Fire breaks out at AIIMS, blaze under control

A massive fire broke out on Saturday evening at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

The fire had reportedly broken out at a building near the Emergency Ward of the hospital. The fire department evacuated people from the building, sources said.

Around 34 fire engines were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

According to the reports, the fire that caused damages to the second and third floor of the PC Block has been brought under control.

No casualty was reported in the incident.

Former Union minister Arun Jaitley is undergoing treatment at the hospital, but he is housed in a different building in the complex.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal earlier in a tweet said, “The fire in AIIMS building will be brought under control at the earliest. Fire Service trying it’s best to extinguish the fire. I appeal to everyone to maintain calm and allow the Fire Services personnel to do their work.”
