Death toll rises to 39 in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi building collapse, rescue operations still underway

The death toll in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi building collapse has risen to 39 on Wednesday.

Satya Narayan Pradhan, DG NDRF earlier informed about the situation on the ground, in a tweet he said, “#BhiwandiBuildingCollapse update9 @NDRFHQ on site, 53 persons a/cted for, 33 dead extracted, 20 rescued live, Aprx 35 lakhs found in debris, Handed over to local police, Ops contd by @5Ndrf”

The incident happened at around 3:40 am on Monday, when a three-storey building collapsed in the Patel Compound area of Bhiwandi near Mumbai. 20 people have been rescued and several are still trapped under the rubble.

Teams of the National Disaster Response Force and personnel of the Thane Disaster Response Force are leading the rescue operation.

President Kovind, PM Modi had expressed anguish over the building collapse and condoled the loss of lives in the incident.
