COVID-19 cases in India rise to 7,93,802; Death toll at 21,604

The number of coronavirus cases in India have risen to 7,93,802 as it recorded 26,506 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. A total of 21,604 coronavirus patients have lost their lives, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.

There are 2,76,685 active cases while 4,95,512 have been cured/discharged, according to Health Ministry data.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country. The total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 230599 with 9,667 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu has the second highest COVID-19 cases – 1,26,581 with 1,765 deaths followed by Delhi – 1,07,051 and 3,258 deaths, Gujarat – 39,194 cases and 2,008 fatalities and Uttar Pradesh – 32,362 cases and 862 deaths.

A total of 1,10,24,491 samples have been tested up to July 9 of which 2,83,659 samples were tested yesterday, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
