A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed on Friday and another injured in a gun battle with the Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Dhamtari district, the paramilitary force said.

The skirmish took place in a deep forest when security forces were out on an anti-Maoist operation.

Head Constable Harish Chandra and Constable Sudhir Kumar were evacuated to a hospital. Later, Harish succumbed to his injuries, a CRPF statement said.

The incident came a day after four Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed in a Maoist ambush in Kanker district of the state.
