Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey took voluntary retirement from service on Tuesday.

The government approved the request of Pandey seeking VRS from services. Pandey a 1987-batch IPS officer, was due to retire in February next year.

Director general of Homeguard and Fire services, Sanjiv Kumar Singhal has been given additional charge of the DGP.

Pandey has been in the news recently after he spoke vehemently in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case.

Speculations were rife from past few months that Pandey will contest assembly polls. Pandey on Wednesday told reporters that he is not sure whether he will contest polls yet. He said that he has not joined any political party and if he does, he will let people know.
