At least 15 killed as heavy rains wreak havoc in Kerala

At least 15 people were killed in Kerala as heavy rains triggered landslides across the state. Among all the districts, Idukki remained the worst affected district.

A situation of the flood has emerged after one of the five shutters of Idukki dam was opened after 26 years to drain out excess rainwater. This leads to an increase in water level in the Periyar river.

The state government has asked for help from the army in Wayanad and Idukki districts.
A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has moved for rescue operations. More teams of NDRF are expected to arrive soon.

Chief Minister has called for an emergency meeting regarding aforesaid.

Schools and colleges would remain shut across different areas of Kerala.
