Amit Shah praises Delhi police for containing violence within 36 hours

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday praised the Delhi Police for containing the violence that broke out on February 23 in north east Delhi.

He appreciated police for preventing the violence from spreading to other areas of the national capital.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha during a debate on Delhi riots, the home minister said that Delhi Police managed to control riots within 36 hours.

Shah, however, alleged that there have been attempts to politicise these riots.

“After February 25, no incident of rioting took place,” Shah added.

He paid tributes to all those who lost their lives in riots and extended his condolences to their grieving families.

Amit Shah also clarified why he wanted the discussion on the riots after Holi as he wanted to avoid a communal flare-up during the festival time.

Shah said he did not attend events in Delhi during US President Donald Trump’s visit as he was sitting with police officials to control violence.
